An international student may register as a student at a South African Educational Institute only after having obtained a study permit from the South African Embassy or Mission in the student’s home country. Upon acceptance, a prospective student needs to pay a non-refundable deposit to verify their intention to study with the International Hotel School. A Visa application letter will then be issued to be used in the application process for a Study Visa.

All foreign students are required by South African law to have a valid study visa.  In order to obtain your visa, there are a choice of two options:

  1. You may make use of our Visa application services (we assist you in applying for your Visa).
  2. You apply for the visa yourself at the South African Consulate/Embassy in your country of origin.

Please note – proof of Study Visa needs to be presented before registration day, to enable you to register.

Most international school qualifications will allow you to be accepted for admission to study at International Hotel School. A certificate of evaluation is required from the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). The admission requirement for the programme must be met. See “Foreign Qualifications Evaluation and Advisory Service”. Due to privacy laws, all applications to SAQA must be done by the student directly and International Hotel School are not able to assist in this process. Applications can be done online directly through their website. Fees do apply which are payable directly to SAQA.

We are a private institution and we are not subsidised and therefore don’t offer any bursaries or study loans. We do however accept students with bursaries and study loans. We have a bursary scheme available for our 2nd and 3rd year students based on academic performance and need. Applications for these close at the end of each tuition year and are awarded for the following year of study. International Hotel School students must contact their Academic Administrator for more information.

  • Full-time studies
  • These programmes consists of a 50% Academic (classroom) and 50% Work Integrated Learning (practical) component. The WIL takes place in leading hospitality establishments. The programme’s equal emphasis on both Academic and Work Integrated Learning ensures the graduate to be job ready. You can register for a Diploma in Professional Cookery & Kitchen Management, Higher Certificate in Hospitality Management or Higher Certificate in Food & Beverage Management. We also offer a qualification for full time study. You pay a tuition fee and need to cover the costs of your uniforms, transport and accommodation.

  • Traineeship studies
  • A Traineeship is a ‘work while you earn and learn” alternative to full time studies.  Trainees are carefully selected via a series of interviews to be placed and trained at a Hotel (usually a distance away from each Campus). You will study via distance learning, through an online platform and given support whilst you are working. You pay a programme fee and need to cover the costs of your daily transport and accommodation. Trainee remuneration is dependent on the property at which you are placed. You need access to a computer with internet capability whilst you are studying.

  • IHS Online
  • The International Hotel School Online learning, offers you to study through our online learning platform for those working in the hospitality industry to improve and update their knowledge, or for those interested in studying without the commitment of attending a course full time. Online students follow a Learning Pathway which requires you to complete assignments. Exams are written at your nearest campus. You will receive online tutor support.

Due to the program content you cannot study Hospitality and Culinary Arts at the same time. We always suggest that students start with the field of study that they are most passionate about and add the other field as they further their career.

Unfortunately, we do not offer in-service training to students who did not study at International Hotel School. The best would be to apply to hotels directly. We wish you luck with your in-service training.
Yes we do. Industry experience forms a vital part in becoming a world class Hospitality or Culinary Professional. Our Work Integrated Learning that forms part of our curriculum, is what sets us apart from other hospitality providers. You will spend 50% per year of your programme on campus and 50% in the industry at leading hospitality and culinary establishments. When you leave the programme, you are job ready.
The International Hotel School Academic board will consider applications for transferring from another institution. You need to bear in mind that institutions offer different qualifications. A transcript of results/ course material/ programme content would have to be provided for the Academic Board’s final approval. It is best to discuss the matter with a consultant and they will help you through the process.
You do not need to have work experience to study with us, but you do need to have a passion for the industry. We do however encourage students to do some job shadowing so that you can get a real life experience of what it like is to work in the hospitality industry.
Yes you can still study with us. Our Culinary Arts programmes do not require a matric certificate, as an entry requirement.
